Clinical Indications

At Epic Care CyberKnife, we offer a noninvasive surgery option for those recently diagnosed with different types of cancer. There are many benefits of the CyberKnife system, including that it is virtually pain free with minimal side effects. Its tumor-tracking technology allows for highly-targeted radiation, reducing the likelihood of healthy cells being attacked. Patients are usually assigned between one and five sessions, which take place over the span of one to two weeks, and are performed in our outpatient center.

Treatment Areas

Fortunately, CyberKnife is able to treat many types of cancer. This includes cancer of the brain, head and neck, and spine; lung and chest; breast, liver, pancreas, and kidney; prostate, and recurrent tumors.

Brain, Head and Neck, Spine

Because CyberKnife will adjust to slight movements, there is no need for an immobilization device, such as a frame bolted to the patient’s skull, greatly enhancing comfort. We’re able to treat the following:

  • Acoustic Neuroma
  • Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM)
  • Astrocytoma
  • Brain Metastases
  • Glioblastoma (GBM)
  • Hemangioblastoma
  • Meningioma
  • Oligodendroglioma
  • Optic Pathway Tumor
  • Recurrent Head & Neck Tumors
  • Paraganglioma (Glomus Tumor)
  • Pituitary Adenoma
  • Spinal Chordoma
  • Spinal Metastases
  • Trigeminal Neuralgia

Lung and Chest, Breast, Liver, Pancreas, Kidney, Abdominal

Respiratory motions can be one of the most challenging parts of radiation therapy, particularly affecting cancers of the lung, breast, liver, pancreas, and kidney. However, CyberKnife’s Synchrony Respiratory Tracking System can track breathing motions and patterns in real-time. This means the patient can breath naturally, instead of holding their breath or using compression devices as some other treatments use. We’re able to treat the following:

  • Early Stage Lung Cancer
  • Recurrent Lung Cancer
  • Lung Metastases
  • Early Stage Breast Cancer
  • Adrenal Metastases
  • Bladder Cancer
  • Hepatocellular Cancer
  • Inoperable Renal Cell Cancer
  • Liver Metastases
  • Lymph Node Metastases
  • Pancreatic Cancer

Prostate and Pelvic

The prostate and pelvic area often move as a result of bowel, stomach, and bladder pressure, which poses difficulties for safe and accurate radiation delivery. Using image guidance, CyberKnife is able to adapt to these movements and successfully deliver radiation accurately, to the precise location.

  • Prostate Cancer
  • Bone Metastases
  • Inoperable / Recurrent Tumor
  • Recurrent Cervical Cancer
  • Recurrent Endometrial Cancer
  • Recurrent Ovarian Cancer
  • Recurrent Vaginal Cancer

Other

CyberKnife’s accuracy makes it a good option for those who have had radiation therapy previously, but their tumor has returned.

  • Residual and Recurrent Anal Cancer
  • Residual and Recurrent Rectal Cancer
  • Other Recurrent Tumors
